5 Reasons You Need to Stop Hitting Snooze and Start Eating Breakfast!

It’s 6:00 am your alarm is violently ringing, and the world is still completely black.  Your first reaction is to hit snooze and turn over.  You close your eyes promising yourself “just 5 more minutes.”  Next thing you know its 6:36 and you've only got 24 minutes to get out the door or otherwise you are going to be late!!

You hustle and bustle, get in and out of the shower in record speed, brush your teeth while you comb your hair, throw on the first outfit you see and race out of the door!  You make it to work just on time and head straight to the staff room to get your morning cup of coffee.

Sound familiar? We’ve all been there, and whether we skip breakfast entirely or settle for some on the go pastry or sweets to accompany our morning latte, we are doing our body a huge disservice! Let me explain 5 reasons why skipping breakfast for the snooze button is going to hurt you in the long run.

Prevents Binging Later On

When we skip breakfast after fasting the entire evening, our blood sugar levels drop to excessively low levels. What does this mean? It means you are going to crave that simple sugar fix and end up overeating (typically junk food) later on in the evening.

Energy for the day

Eating a healthy breakfast containing fiber, protein, and fat can serve as your fuel source for the rest of the day. A healthy balanced breakfast is a sure way to avoid that afternoon lull of energy.

Improved concentration levels

Studies have shown that those who eat breakfast perform at a much higher level than those who eat poorly or not at all. Increased focus, concentration, and cognitive performance are all bi-products of a healthy breakfast.

Kick start your metabolism

Breakfast is designed to do just that, to “break the fast.” During your evening sleep your body’s metabolism naturally slows down as it doesn’t need to burn a lot of energy during rest. The problem with this is if you don’t fire up your metabolism with a morning meal you risk running on an empty fuel tank for the rest of the day.

Weight loss

For those of us who want to lose a few pounds or just maintain a healthy weight need to be made aware of this recent study!

In a split test experiment published by the magazine “Obesity,” two groups were tacked over a 90 day period. Both groups were given the same caloric diet with only one major change. Group A ate a majority of their calories at breakfast and group B ate a majority of their calories at dinner. Can you guess what the results were? You would assume equal weight loss right? I mean they were eating the exact same number of calories and following the exact same diet plan.

But this wasn't the case, Group A lost an average of 17.8 pounds over the 3 months period, with group B losing an average of 7.3 pounds. Group A lost almost 2.5x more weight eating the same number of calories as group B in just a 90 days period!!
